Microsoft Visual C & C++: Document icon

I have a MDI app and want both the App and Doc icons to be the same. So I changed both of the default icons in ResourceView to the icon I want to use. But when I compile and run the app, the App icon is fine but the Doc icon gets shrunk and put inside a paper symbol (I guess to designate it as a Doc).

I've been looking for documentation on this "feature", but can't find it anywhere. Does this happen to anybody else? Or am I doing something wrong?
